Filesharing

It is obvious why the numerous corporations that fear they will lose money to file sharing denounce it as piracy. As an intended consequence, those who download media in this manner are branded as criminal or morally deficient. However, despite the connotation one would have with the word pirate, file sharing does not equate with the theft of property. When one shares a file, they are freely distributing a copy of the original information. No one is harmed by this.

For years games, movies and music have been the most popular downloads. However, none of these industries have faltered or even staggered for a few months. Therefore, illegally downloaded content cannot necessarily mean lost purchases. In fact, those who download music illegally spend more money on it than those who don't.
